Does "Missed Connections" work?

I was looking through the Missed Connections section of Craigslist earlier and got to wondering: does it even work? Afterall, your chances are pretty slim:

1. The other person has to frequent Craigslist.
2. Furthermore, they need to go into the Missed Connections section for some reason; and I don't think many people go there for fun (though I did, so who knows...but I only go on Craigslist very rarely nowadays).
3. Your headline has to grab them enough to click on it.
4. They have to decide they're interested in you for some reason.
   

The chances of all those stars coming into alignment has to be pretty slim; but I suppose with volume, there must be some success stories out there.
